The City of Venice, through the Observatory on Welfare Policies at the Social Affairs Dept., promotes and supports the development of the local welfare system, supports the initiatives of the social economy local district and activates networks of cooperation between Local Authorities, Third Sector and citizens. During the last years, it has been paying an increasing attention towards the collaboration with the Third Sector, in order to give an integrated answers to the needs of the community and its inhabitants. Coherently with this objective and in line with its Strategic Plan, the City of Venice also supports social entrepreneurial initiatives which have the social cohesion and economic development of the City as objective. The City of Venice was partner in the SEE 2° call for proposal project ISEDE-NET Innovative Social Enterprise Development Network, where it was the leader of the WP5 Development of an innovative financial tools for social enterprises.. Besides the transnational exchange activities, at local level the City of Venice is coordinating a working group, who operates on the basis of the Open Coordination Method. The working group is made of representatives of the financial sector, the local social economy, the profit sector and the local and regional public authority, who have agreed on sharing the social responsibility towards the local welfare system.
Through the Economic development, European Policies and Strategic plan department, the City of Venice acts at European level by promoting initiatives, submitting and managing projects in priority areas for the growth of the Administration and of the local community: environment and local sustainable development, innovation and employment, social and e-inclusion, intercultural dialogue, urban regeneration, human rights promotion, cultural heritage preservation and valorization.
